"There was a sculptor. He found this stone, a special stone. He dragged it home and he worked on it for months until he finally finished it. When he was ready he showed it to his friends. They said he had created a great masterpiece, but the sculptor said he hadn't created anything. The statue was always there, he just chipped away the rough edges." ~Rambo III

Begin at the beginning...
On June 9, 2010 I walked into a health club with a job to do. I had basically 100 lbs to lose and I knew I needed help. I checked out a few health clubs in my area, and was most impressed with Bally Total Fitness. You can find a Bally Total Fitness in your area.
I knew I could not begin this journey alone, so I hired a personal trainer and committed my self to 12 sessions. In my mind, this was my summer job. I was finally ready to take this on...this desire came from within, not from anybody else. I have learned that it has to come from within.
My trainer told me that I had to begin tracking every morsel of food that went into my mouth. I truly have done that...good or bad, they all make their way into my daily food journal. I have used Tap & Track, available for iPhone. I can track my food as well as my exercise. This is a fantastic app! I can even export data to my email, where I can print reports so I can take them to my trainer on a weekly basis.
I will be adding many of the recipes, tips from friends, exercises, and ideas to this blog that have been a part of my current success. To date, I have lost 57 lbs. I've come down 2 scales on the BMI from "Severely Obese" to now "Overweight."
Join my on my journey... hopefully you too can find some inspiration and ideas. Share with me your success stories and let's sculpt that beautiful stone that lays within every one of us!

Congratulations Amy! This is not an easy journey and you are doing great!
ReplyDeleteI would like to know what inspires and motivates you to keep going.
I like your BMI calculator. That's an important factor to determining a health wait. Keep up the good work on your journey. I know it's a tough one, but you're doing great.
ReplyDeleteYou Go GIRL! Your determination is inspiring to us all!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that keeping a food journal is important before. What is it about this process that works for you? Do you count calories? Does is simply make you aware of what's going in/out?
ReplyDeleteFood journaling is something I started on day ONE and I continue to do it. YES, I count calories, proteins and carbs...but YES, the greatest impact is on awareness of food in general. I try to input food BEFORE eating it, so I can make judgment calls... "Do I REALLY want this?" type of stuff.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, the journal MUST BE EASY or you will abandon it! I use my iPhone app...but I carry that phone everywhere. Paper and pencil didn't work for me... I did not want to have to look up anything... I don't have time. I just want to type in a food and have the app tell me all about it. :)
Thanks for your questions, Sara and good luck!
I am so impressed by your determination and dedication, though not surprised. When you told me your plan last summer, I heard it in your voice - you would get it done!! I truely am so happy for your success...you have done so much to be proud of. Love you.
ReplyDeleteYou are an inspiration! Great job and keep up the good work.
